Support
Help
Short answers based on how Zam Zam works today. This page is the support address for the product.
Getting started
Install is not publicly available yet. iPhone and Android are in a private beta, and this website does not link private builds.
When you have the app, you create an account with a phone number and a username.
Registration and verification codes
Enter your phone number, then the verification code, then a username and a display name.
During the private beta, code delivery can be limited. If a code does not arrive, write to support and include the phone number. Do not send the code itself if it arrives later.
Messages
You can send text, photos, video, voice messages, files, and stickers in direct chats, groups, and channels.
You can reply, react, edit, forward, pin, archive, and mute.
Private chats are end-to-end encrypted. Public channels are not.
Calls
Voice and video work one to one and in groups. Group call media is end-to-end encrypted.
You can share a call link. A group call can require approval before someone joins.
Screen sharing works on desktop and Android. It does not work on iPhone.
Groups
Create a group, share an invite link, and use owner or admin roles. Ownership can be transferred.
Group messages are end-to-end encrypted by default.
Notifications
Allow notifications in the system settings if you want calls and messages to alert you.
The default notification does not include message text. You can include the sender’s name in Zam Zam’s notification settings.
Backup and restore
Encrypted cloud backup is not available. There is nothing to restore from a Zam Zam backup, because that feature is not built.
Messages stay on your devices. A new device does not receive older encrypted history.
A new device
Sign in with your phone number. That creates a new device and new keys. QR linking is not available.
You will see messages sent after that device joins. Drafts you typed on another device stay there.
A lost device
From a device that is still signed in, remove the lost one. That signs it out and rotates encryption so it should stop receiving new messages.
If you have no device left, write to support. Include your username. We will tell you what we can do. Deleting the account is separate, and the steps are on the delete-account page.
Delete account
There is no delete button in the app or on this website yet. Use the delete-account page. It explains what is removed, what may be kept, and that deletion is permanent.
Privacy and security
Last seen and profile photo can be limited. Read receipts can be turned off. You can block and report.
The security page explains encryption in plain language, including what it does not hide.
Beta limits
Public downloads are not open. Business profiles, bots, and a public developer API are not offered.
Disappearing messages, view-once media, scheduled messages, and rich text formatting are not in the product.
iPhone screen sharing is not available.
